Krazy Kobra

I wrote Krazy Kobra in 1983 because I had loved Snake Byte (Chuck Sommerville, 1981) so much that I wanted to write my own clone and have more levels in it. Snake Byte had 28 levels so I made 50 in Krazy Kobra. The game is a pretty good version of the classic Snake game.

UpTime wanted to publish it in 1987 so I said, "Hell yeah! Gimme $250!"

  • The cover of the issue. They were very big sleeves that the disks were packaged into. I had to scan this thing 4 times it's so big.

  • The back cover. Notice the Applied Engineering ad. Most people were afraid to touch their interface cards but these cartoon bozos have no qualms about possibly blowing up this $130 card.

Make sure you have an iron will or you won't survive Krazy Kobra!

  • This cobra is so krraaaazy that it's actually a BABY which is why you're constantly collecting baby milk bottles! WHUH?? Yeah, welcome to the 80's, pal.

So Rhaluka just said the "snake" looks like a caterpillar because it's segmented (and a cobra isn't(!!)). So I should have named it Krazy Katerpillar. I'M SO DUMB!!!

  • My menu/startup screen. The cobra has one of those El Dolto beanies on its head - the kind with a propeller on it. Why? Probably because I'm mentally wearing one constantly.

  • Here's the page of notes I wrote while I was planning the hacks I had to do to the game to make it conform to UpTime's menu shell. This was 4 years after I wrote the game and lost the source code. So I had to manually hack the machine code.
